The League of Conservation Voters just endorsed Barack Obama because his environmental policies are both innovative and specific. You can compare the environmental policies of Obama and McCain at a glance or in this longer interview with Discover Magazine.

While John McCain has supported environmental initiatives in the past, the Maverick has swiftly returned to the Republican fold in a complete reversal of his positions on global warming and drilling. McCain’s choice of Sarah Palin as a running mate is the clearest evidence of his current diregard for environmental issues. Palin’s environmental record is “abysmal” (For a taste of her record: she fought the Bush administration to keep Polar Bears off the threatened species list and denies humans have caused climate change).

McCain has also been lying about Senators Obama’s and Biden’s positions, basically claiming that they are too friendly to the environment and won’t support clean coal energy sources. The truth is that both support clean coal, despite the claims of a recent radio attack ad.

  • McCain is silly Says:

The fact that really sent me over the edge when it comes to opposing McCain’s environmental policies (as if his policies alone weren’t enough) is that his website does not even list environment as an issue! He just discusses it briefly under the heading of energy. Does he not realize that there is more to helping the environment than just changing our energy consumption patterns? Apparently not.
